Who’s That What’s That // Niko B

20 year old rapper Niko B, hailing from Milton Keynes crashed into the charts in June with his second single ‘Who’s That What’s That’. A favourite among Gen Z, the song’s tongue-in-cheek playfulness isn’t out of reach for those who consider themselves a little too boomer to be among his TikTok following. Niko, real name Tom Austin (borrowing his moniker from the video game GTA4) has created the perfect lockdown antidote. Created in his bedroom, the lyrics touch on the more mundane aspects of life in Britain and are relatable to a population stuck at home.

A little bittersweet, the focal point of the song, McDonalds, serves as a reminder of the good things coming the other side of lockdown. “Copped a Big Mac / Milkshake and some large fries, it cost / Four pound 50 / Take the gherkin out of the inside”. Whether you’re a fan of gherkins or not Niko B, with his self-identified ‘boppy’ genre-defying tunes, is one to watch as we (hopefully) move past the car crash that has been 2020.
