Season Three Of ‘The Boys’ Filming May Be Underway

Despite the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, rumours have begun to emerge that season three of fan-favourite Amazon Prime series The Boys has begun filming.

Fans of the darkly comic superhero series The Boys, which presents a more likely picture of how arrogant ‘Supes’ (superheroes) might coexist alongside the rest of us, finally have cause to hope that a third season is on the horizon. Director Erik Kripke told Collider in August 2020 that they planned to start filming for the season in January 2021, and it seems they have stuck to this schedule against all odds.

On January 5th, Jack Quaid, who plays Hughie (the somewhat hapless member of the ragtag group of ‘boys’, who pit themselves against the pride-swollen Supes) posted on Instagram with the caption “You’ll never guess where I’m going but it rhymes with Buh Toys Teason Shree… #theboystv # S3″

At a time when other shows have paused filming due to the Coronavirus pandemic, it seems like The Boys is pushing ahead. Erik Kripke also said in August that they were aiming to complete all eight scripts ahead of filming to prevent delays.

Filming is taking place in Toronto, where local restrictions require the actors to go through two weeks in quarantine before they can start. This places the likely start date for shooting in late January. For reference, season one started filming in May 2018 and finished by October of the same year, airing nine months later. Season two filmed from July to November 2019, streaming the following September. If we extrapolate the same timeframes to season three, it is likely that we might expect a release in early 2022.

While this may seem some way off, the addition of Supernatural star Jensen Ackles to the cast as the anti-hero ‘Soldier Boy’, might encourage more people to watch the first two seasons while we wait, possibly boosting the popularity of the series even further.

In addition to the returning cast consisting of Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Tomer Kapon, Erin Moriarty, Antony Starr, Chace Crawford, and more, there are exciting rumours that Jeffrey Dean Morgan from The Walking Dead might be involved. Kripke told RadioTimes.com, however, that this was one thing the pandemic might interrupt, saying,

“I will caution everybody that COVID could really screw that up, because he is a regular on another show”.

For now, despite the emergence of these teaser details, fans will just have to wait and see.
